NEWS

AUGUST 29th 2005:

It's here!!! Seaworthy is finished and off to be pressed, and will be available beginning with the first gig on our Pacific Northwest tour on September 7th! (That's the other big news- check out or tour dates !) It will be available soon after that from CD BABY , and finally, in stores on November 8th!

We are all thrilled with our new recording, and we know you will love it. Check out the samples here.

APRIL 21st 2005:

We’ve had some SUPER-fun gigs lately:
We  were thrilled to be opening for Spock’s Beard at the POUND SF on April 9. What a night! What a lovely crowd, c’est magnifique!! Thanks to Cip and Insipid Productions! & Thanks to Rio for helping me with my keyboard—you are a gentlemen and a scholar (and a damn fine keyboardist!).

..And longer ago, Gary’s birthday party show at the RED DEVIL LOUNGE  was cool too, w/ Kat Downs & the Eclectics  and Charlie Horse.. oh yes yes yes. And do not forget the Late Night Doughnuts at BOB’s. Lordy God. Or should I say “lardy”. (actually, Andrew says it’s not lard they use at Bob’s, but hydrogenated soybean oil---hmmm, trans fats anyone? Uh oh?

Bob’s is down the street from RED DEVIL Lounge and around 11pm they make hot doughnuts. This you need to know.

 What else?

Here in True Margrit land we are slogging, plugging, and striving away at the final mixes of
SEAWORTHY
(The little CD that can and will). Last night we mixed “TRUE” and I turned to Gary and said, “Well, that’s not something you hear everyday...” We think you’ll also feel that way. Or not. But at any rate, we are getting closer to having it mixed, oh yes, mixed it will be like a delicious and spicy savory sauce. Yum Yum.

Anyhoo... look for it in June. But we will shout it from the roof, fear not, when it is done. Much ado will ensue. I promise.

My very own sister, Mim Eichler Rivas was in town two weeks ago doing book signings and interviews for her book: “Beautiful Jim Key”. It is great, in fact, it’s  “...a horse book that’s better than Seabiscuit” (according to Francis Fryer)..And it’s in its 6th printing! You can get it on Amazon or Borders or your local indie bookseller.

And tell me? What’s going on with you ? Perhaps you:

  1. went hiking
  2. moved
  3. finished your taxes, but are permanently emotionally scarred
  4. saw a wild parrot (or the the movie about said parrots)
  5. ate foie gras
  6. quit your job
  7. got a new job
  8. saw your cat eat a live mouse (yuck-o)
  9. just finished reading a great book called “Beautiful Jim Key” or “Cloud Atlas” or “The Time Travellers Wife”( I loved them all)
  10. blogged all day and boy are your arms tired

Enough about you, what do you think of True Margrit?

Heh heh. That’s quite enough of the egomania for now.
Love,
Margrit

Oh that was an inordinately long lapse of time, a lapse of reasons & seasons, and a lapse of True Margrit news (most of all). WE extend a big ol' thanks to everyone who came to the late-spring, summer, and early-to-mid-autumn gig in San Francisco or Sacramento or Scotts Valley or Oakland or San Mateo. but what else happened since last we talked?

Let's see...

Much recording was undertaken on this here upcoming True Margrit CD entitled "SEAWORTHY". And what, you may ask, was recorded? I will tell you: percussion, saxophone, vocals, cello, bassoon, oboe, flute, piano, electric guitar, etc etc etc... Lotsa stuff in other words and now we are mixing the puppy but you won't find it chirping happily under the tree, from Santa or his representatives, no. But!! fear not, it will be available in the NEW YEAR of the year of 2005 of the new Millenium. soon, oh soon the CD.

And what else is up? Some great gigs to look out for to be sure! We have graduated {cum laude, I might add} from Monday night at the RED DEVIL LOUNGE so now you gotta look for us on Thursdays (or even later in the week!!). And for you East Bayers, we are gonna be at BLAKE'S on Telegraph, too! There will be touring in 2005 and much rejoicing notwithstanding the gnashing of teeth due to the dental work I am having done.

and somewhere sometime soon............................................................. THE CD RELEASE PARTY FOR "SEAWORTHY" (to be announced). So stay tuned in. by all means I mean it don't be mean.

love,

A big thanks to everyone who came to the Biscuits and Blues show last night--that was fun! I love playing a real piano and the biscuits with honey-butter: yeehaw! A good time (with fried foods and blue notes) was had by all. We've been trying out some new tunes: "Metaphor" a pretty new 6/8 ditty about metaphors, literally. Also "Please Move Your Car" (a song about San Francisco parking angst--though it can be applied to other urban centers) which was more heavy and apocalyptic at the Red Devil Lounge (there we raise the flagon of rock) but I think people could hear the words better last night. We hope we'll be back at Biscuits and Blues in the next month or two (check the shows page to know for sure, of course).

The NEW CD is chuggin along. Niall Fordyce was up from L.A. to play some tasty guitar on some tracks. With the smoking guitar parts Dave Parnall laid down the month before, we are pretty much done with guitar for the CD now. Our two world-class law-student lead guitarists have presented their positons. I rest my case.(seriously, they are both in law school--weird, huh? what do es it mean? I shudder to think...in the best possible way)

Also, I've been recording some of the lead vocals and we are in the planning stages for percussion and strings .. more details on those as they develop...

Last month I promised to tell y'all more about which tunes we are recording: ok! I have been working on "Nothing" to which I added some wurlitzer piano, synth and vocals. I have also been writing out (!!) string arrangements for "Electricity"... and...tune in next month to know more...

Last thing: how about "Polly Graff" for a title?

The biggest news is: the new True Margrit CD is at the overdubbing and vocals stage (last stuff before mixing). We have been tracking at the wonderful Hyde Street studios and at Armin Hammer productions and will also be at Get Reel Pro too. The latest working title is,"What if we Were From France"...yeah, the working title has changed, it used to be "Everyone Wins". That's why it's called a working title. We gotta work it to see if it works... There are a lot of other working titles like,"Gross and Sad" and others too silly to bother elaborating upon although "By Roastie Oven" is fetching, but that's another story.

Anyway, we are proud to have Michael Zapruder producing the project--- we like to call him "Michael za producer". He's doing a bang-up job keeping it real, giving perspective and egging us on to dizzying heights. Yesterday, Mr. Zapruder's insight of the day was that this album will be in the category/ genre of "Chamber Pop". This is a reflection on the particular songs but also cuz we're gonna have REAL STRINGS on some songs. With the earthy tones of acoustic piano, strings, percussion, drums, vintage keyboards and basses this album is gonna be, well, you're gonna hafta hear it. The lineup is Gary Hobish on bass (and audio engineering), Andrew Bacon on drums, Dave Parnall on guitar, Niall Fordyce on guitar and Margrit on piano and voice (and vintage and new keys--we got wurlitzer electric piano, the fender rhodes, the arp 2600, hammond, triton..).As for specifics on the songs...tune in next month for more info on the new CD...

Gary and Margrit were on the scene for Amy Meyers CD Release party at ODC Theatre in SF on February 29th.

Gary busted out his mobile gear and recorded the event. Margrit played keys and vocalized in the Amy Meyers supergroup alongside Blame Sally's Pam Delgado (vocals/percussion) and Jeri Jones (guitar), as well as Paul Olguin (bass), Russ Gold (drums) and of course the amazing Amy Meyers herself.

Margrit also played solo at Luna Sea Theatre on the Tunesmith Singer/ Songwriters in the Round Series last month appearing on a really entertaining and GREAT bill including Lindasusan Ulrich, Eileen Hazel, and Kat Downs. Y'all best keep your ear/eye out for them women so as not to miss the next time...

One More Important fact:

Monday, March 22 is Dianne Nola's BIG BIRTHDAY!!

She is on the bill with us at Viv and a Movie!! (see SHOWS)

so be there cuz she is fab.

..and so are we

and so are you and you and you

love,
